In the 1960s, developers built a subdivision, naming it "Woodbranch" because of the abundance of trees in the area.
"[7] As of the 2020 United States census, there were 1,330 people, 492 households, and 409 families residing in the city.
As of the 2010 United States Census,[12] there were 1,282 people, 477 households, and 380 families residing in the city.
[13] It is governed at the local level by an elected mayor and five council members.

[18] A small portion of residents in the eastern corner of Woodbranch will be zoned to a new school opening in August 2017, Dogwood Elementary.
