[1] The Infirmary was famous for hosting the first meeting of the Provincial Medical and Surgical Association in 1832, chaired by physician Charles Hastings, which would later become the British Medical Association.
[2][3] A new hospital was procured under a Private Finance Initiative contract to replace the Worcester Royal Infirmary in 1999, with the new site located on the eastern side of the city.
[1] The new hospital was designed by Anshen Dyer,[4] built by Bovis Lend Lease[5] at a cost of £85 million[6] and opened in March 2002.
[7] Expansion of the hospital took place when the Worcestershire Oncology Centre opened on the site in January 2015.
[8] The hospital is located in Charles Hastings Way, named after Charles Hastings, a leading physician with a longstanding connection to healthcare in the city of Worcester and nationally.
