He received his Doctor of Philosophy from Columbia University in 1992 in anthropology and linguistics, specialising in the Chinese language.
[3][4] Dr Ho served as the Director of Curriculum and Language at the China Institute and taught at New School University, New York.
[5][1] His role there saw him oversee the Chinese courses for the UN language and communications program, including designing the syllabus and selecting teaching materials.
[1] Shortly after joining the UNCLP, Dr Ho received the 'UN 21 Award' for his contribution to the Division of Languages team.
[5] In 2014, Dr Ho was once again presented with the 'UN 21 Award', this time by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki Moon for service 'beyond the call of duty' for his 'outstanding contributions to the Chinese Summer Study Programme at Nanjing University'.
