[2][3] "Your Love Is a Song" first came together as a collaboration between Switchfoot singer Jon Foreman and the hip hop producer Mike Elizondo.

The band had arrived at a standstill in the recording process for Hello Hurricane, having recorded nearly 80 songs and needing an outside perspective to help "make sense of the mess we made",[4] brought Elizondo into the process.

After some phone conversations with Foreman, the two got together and wrote "Your Love Is a Song."

Switchfoot performed the song on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on November 12, 2010.

The song was featured prominently at the end of an episode of One Tree Hill called "You Know I Love You, Don't You".
