The current airport was constructed between 2007 and 2009, 7 kilometres (4.3 mi) south-southwest of Zagora.

The previous facility[3] sat at 30°19′13″N 005°52′00″W / 30.32028°N 5.86667°W / 30.32028; -5.86667, with a sand runway of 1,140 metres (3,740 ft) length.
