1986 Tennessee State Tigers football team

The 1986 Tennessee State Tigers football team represented Tennessee State University as an independent during the 1986 NCAA Division I-AA football season.

Led by third-year head coach William A. Thomas, the Tigers compiled an overall record of 10–2–1.

Tennessee State advanced to the Division I-AA post season and defeated Jackson State in the first round and lost to Nevada in the quarterfinals.
