1989 Goody's 500

The 1989 Goody's 500 was the 24th stock car race of the 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Series season and the 41st iteration of the event.

In the closing stages of the race, Hendrick Motorsports driver Darrell Waltrip would make a late-race charge to the front, passing for the lead with 47 laps left in the race.

To fill out the top three, the aforementioned Harry Gant and Stavola Brothers Racing driver Dick Trickle would finish second and third, respectively.

At 0.526 miles (0.847 km) in length, it is the shortest track in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Jimmy Hensley, who was replacing the regular driver for Richard Childress Racing, Dale Earnhardt, would win the pole, setting a time of 20.602 and an average speed of 91.913 miles per hour (147.920 km/h) in the first round.
