1st Infantry Division (Russian Empire)

The 1st Infantry Division (Russian: 1-я пехотная дивизия, 1-ya Pekhotnaya Diviziya) was an infantry formation of the Russian Imperial Army that existed in various formations from 1811 until the end of World War I and the Russian Revolution.

[2] It was initially formed in 1811 as the 25th Infantry Division, and renumbered as the 1st in 1820.

[3]: 118  The division took part in the Russo-Japanese War and was located in Manchuria during that time.

It was completely destroyed during the Russian invasion of East Prussia by September of that year and was reformed in December 1914.

It was demobilized around the time of the Russian Revolution and the subsequent unrest.
