State Assemblyman Kevin Shelley (D-San Francisco), the Democratic nominee, narrowly defeated the Republican, former State Assemblyman Keith Olberg (R-Hesperia).

Shelley’s victory gave Democrats complete control of state government for the first time since before the Civil War.
