Stan Wawrinka defeated defending champion Novak Djokovic in the final, 6–7(1–7), 6–4, 7–5, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2016 US Open.
Wawrinka saved a match point en route to the title, against Dan Evans in the third round.
Djokovic was the third man in the Open Era (after Ivan Lendl and Andy Murray) to lose five finals at the same major.
This was the first US Open since 1999 not to feature five-time champion Roger Federer.
