The 2016–17 season was the third with Guinness as the title sponsor and the eighth ever League Grand Final.
[2][3][4] The semi-finals followed a 1 v 4, 2 v 3 system with the games being played at the home ground of the higher placed teams.
Munster wore navy for the final with the Scarlets in red following a coin toss that took place in advance of the semi-finals.
