The earthquake was recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) on February 10, 2017, at 10:03:42 PM (UTC+8).
According to PHIVOLCS, the epicenter of the 6.7 magnitude-earthquake was at 9°48′N 125°21′E / 9.80°N 125.35°E / 9.80; 125.35 or 16 kilometers, north west of Surigao City.
[8] According to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, at least 300 houses in Surigao del Norte were damaged following the earthquake.
[4] The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Surigao del Norte projected that the cost of damage to property and infrastructure was at least ₱665 million.
[10] On March 5, 2017, an aftershock of magnitude 5.9 occurred; one person died of a heart attack, and 29 others were injured, while some walls collapsed.
