[5] On 20 January 2024, Omar Berrada was announced as CEO starting July 2024, moving from the City Football Group.

However, an independent tribunal deducted three points Aston Villa on 29 January for fielding an ineligible player, awarding Sunderland with a victory and promoting them to group winners in Group A. Aston Villa progressed as a best-placed runner-up at the expense of Manchester United on goal difference.
