With a win over the San Francisco Giants on September 13, the Padres improved on their 82–80 record from the previous season.
[1] On September 24, the Padres secured a wild card spot in the postseason with a 4–2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers behind a game-winning triple play.
The 5-4-3 triple play marked a number of historical feats: the ninth overall in franchise history, the third to end a game in the last 30 years, the first by the Padres since June 10, 2010 against the New York Mets, and the first ever in MLB history to clinch a postseason berth by way of a game-winning triple play.
[4] They were also the first team to hit 6 home runs in a single postseason game on the road, the most in Major League Baseball history.
