There four companies were posted at Camp Lincoln Mankato and South Bend.
Orders came each Company to report to Fort Snelling prior to movement by foot to Winona.
[1] At Winona the Mississippi River was still open and they embarked riverboats to be taken south to participate in The Battle of Arkansas Post, fought January 9–11, 1863.
[2] It suffered 2 officers and 63 enlisted men who were killed in action or who died of their wounds and 2 officers and 207 enlisted men who died of disease, for a total of 274 fatalities.
