44th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment

The 44th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment was a volunteer infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.

The 44th Wisconsin was organized at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service by companies between October and November 1864.

The first five companies of the regiment were rushed to Nashville as a battalion under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Oliver C. Bissell, in November 1864, to assist in the defense of the Battle of Nashville.
