Previously, he served as the head of the Propaganda Department of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Jilin Provincial Committee.

[1] He studied human geography at Peking University's College of Urban and Environmental Sciences and obtained a doctoral degree in the discipline in 1997.

[2] After leaving school, A Dong worked at the State Oceanic Administration for 19 years.

[2] In August 2016, he was sent to Sansha, Hainan to serve as the city's specifically-designated deputy Communist Party secretary.

[3] In May 2023, A Dong was appointed as the First Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China.
