He played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Chicago White Sox and San Diego Padres.
He signed with the White Sox and made his professional debut in 2013, with the Great Falls Voyagers, batting .301/.379/.414 with 31 stolen bases.
[1] After the season, he played in the Australian Baseball League for the Melbourne Aces, batting a combined .264/.335/.400 with 39 stolen bases.
[10] On May 27, 2017, Engel was recalled from Triple-A Charlotte Knights and made his Major League debut the same day recording his first MLB hit in his third at bat against the Detroit Tigers.
He was activated and made his 2021 season debut on June 6 against the Detroit Tigers and even robbed a Home Run from Niko Goodrum in that same game.
On January 6, 2023, Engel signed a one-year, major league contract with the San Diego Padres.
[14] Engel began the season on the injured list after suffering a left hamstring strain in spring training.
[15] He began a rehab assignment with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas on April 15[16] and was activated off of the injured list on May 5.
