Akii Bua Stadium

[3] The stadium is would be located in the city of Lira, in Lango sub-region, in the Northern Region of Uganda.

The proposed stadium will sit on a piece of real estate in the city centre referred to as the John Akii Bua Playground, measuring approximately 18.455 hectares (45.60 acres).

[4] The stadium is named after John Akii-Bua (3 December 1949 – 20 June 1997), a native son who was the winner of the gold medal at the 1972 Summer Olympics in the 400 metres hurdles with a then world record time of 47.82 seconds.

As of March 2024, the contractor is waiting for a water source, electricity connection, a suitable road to the site and a signed EPC contract before beginning work.

[13] In December 2024, the EPC contract was signed in Kampala, between the government of Uganda and SAMCO National Construction Company.
