Shortly after completing a compulsory one-year youth service in Nigeria, he began his residency training in obstetrics and gynecology in 1982.

In November 1996, he was awarded the American Society for Reproductive Medicine prize for outstanding scientific contributions for the best poster presentation at the 52nd annual conference held in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
