[citation needed] He did his doctoral work at the Organic Chemistry Division of the National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST), Thiruvananthapuram under Vijay Nair and obtained the Ph D degree in 2007.
Returning to India in 2011, he joined CSIR-National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune as a Senior Scientist.
In June 2017, Biju joined the Department of Organic Chemistry at Indian Institute of Science as an associate professor.
[4] Biju heads a research group in the Organic Chemistry Division of the Indian Institute of Science which specializes in developing methodologies for solving problems related to reaction discovery and targeted synthesis.
The group focuses on the research areas of Aryne chemistry, asymmetric catalysis, donor-acceptor cyclopropanes and N-heterocyclic carbene organocatalysis.
