According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 40.2 square miles (104 km2), all land.
Its villages include Albany, Eckville, Greenawald, Kempton, Stony Run, and Trexler.
Albany Township is home to Hawk Mountain Sanctuary and the Wanamaker, Kempton & Southern heritage railroad.
The Kempton Community Center hosts the annual Pennsylvania Renewable Energy Festival in September.
Portions of the Pennsylvania State Game Lands Number 106, which passes a part of the Appalachian National Scenic Trail, is located along the northern border of the township.
