[2] Following the independence, he was appointed as the Minister of Justice of Malagasy Republic in October 1960.

[1][2] He was considered to be the senior Merina in Malagasy Republic government.

[4] He lost this political position when President Tsiranana was effectively ousted in October 1972.

In 1991, he got a position of one of the two Vice Prime Ministers in the cabinet of Guy Willy Razanamasy.
