Alfred Webb-Johnson, 1st Baron Webb-Johnson

Born Alfred Johnson, he was the son of Samuel Johnson, medical officer of health at Stoke-on-Trent, by Julia Anne Webb, daughter of James Webb.

He fought in the First World War as a colonel in the Army Medical Service, was mentioned in despatches three times and was awarded the Distinguished Service Order[2] and Territorial Decoration.

[3][4] Webb-Johnson was consulting surgeon, governor and vice-president of the Middlesex Hospital in London as well as dean of its medical school.

[8] On 22 June 1948 he was elevated to the peerage as Baron Webb-Johnson, of Stoke-on-Trent in the County of Stafford.

[4] In 1954 he was made a Knight Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (GCVO).
