Relations between Germany and Algeria are described as "good" by the German Federal Foreign Office.

German arms dealer Georg Puchert played an important role in supplying the National Liberation Front with explosives and weapons.

Five years later, official relations were established instead with the German Democratic Republic (East Germany).
