Amin Suhrawardy

He was the youngest son of Ubaidullah Al Ubaidi Suhrawardy, a notable writer and scholar, who contributed significantly to the Bengali Renaissance movement; and his second wife, Syeda Shamsunnihar Begum, whose father, Syed Hafiz Hossein, was the then deputy magistrate of Midnapur district.

His full brother, Habib ur Rahman Suhrawardy was Sufi mystic, who attempted to carry forward the family's spiritual legacy, but he however died untimely at the mere age of 19.

Amin later joined the bar and practiced as a lawyer at Calcutta High Court, after which he was promoted to the rank of subordinate judge in 1887.

[1] Amin was married to Begum Umme Khatun, a sister of Yusufuddin Ahmed, the chief executive engineer of the PWD department in Bengal Presidency.

Umme Khatun's first cousin included Khan Bahadur Kabiruddin Ahmed, the father of Humayun Kabir, the third Education Minister of India.
