Annie Burgin Craig

Craig was born on February 15, 1873 to Captain Joseph B. Burgin, a Confederate States Army officer, and Margaret E.

[1][2][3] She grew up on her family's farm at the foot of Black Mountain, near Old Fort, North Carolina.

[4] They had four sons: Carlyle, George Winston, Arthur Burgin, and Locke Jr.

[2] After their time in the executive mansion ended, she and her family purchased a house in Asheville along the Swannanoa River.

[2] Craig was an accomplished and competitive bridge player, active in the congregation at First Presbyterian Church, and was a member of the Current Literature Club.
