[13] Anupam Kher was born on 7 March 1955 in Simla, in the Patiala and East Punjab States Union of India (now in Himachal Pradesh) into a Kashmiri Pandit family.

In 2014, Kher has written and starred in a play about his own life called Kucch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, which was directed by Feroz Abbas Khan.
