It is a diplomatic post of the Holy See, whose representative is called the Apostolic Nuncio to Australia with the rank of an ambassador.
The office of the nunciature is located in Red Hill, Canberra.
The mission was established as the Apostolic Delegation to Australasia by Pope Pius X on 15 April 1914 and given responsibility for Australia, Tasmania,[a] and New Zealand.
