Trained in civil engineering and construction management, Fort was recognized for his efforts to modernize U.S. embassy facilities.
[4] He was next Director of Construction in the Office of the United States Secretary of Defense.
[4] After he was confirmed by the Senate, Fort was Assistant Secretary of State for Administration from August 9, 1989, until January 8, 1993.
Upon leaving government service in 1993, Fort became vice president of Holmes & Narver Inc., an Orange County-based engineering, architectural and construction services firm.
[5] After leaving Holmes & Narver in 1998, he was elected to the National Academy of Construction in 2005.
