Aster Data was co-founded in 2005 by Stanford University graduate students George Candea, Mayank Bawa and Tasso Argyros.
On March 3, 2011, Teradata agreed to pay an additional $263 million for the remaining ownership interest, net of debt and other expenses.
In addition to the Aster database software, another appliance was available with nodes running the Hortonworks distribution of Apache Hadoop.
[15][16] After Bawa left the company in 2014, he was named a young achiever by the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (from which he graduated in 1999).
[19] In October, 2015 Teradata announced a set of analytics techniques and applications to run on Apache Hadoop, marketed for the Internet of things.
