The district serves primary and secondary students in the city of Aurora and part of the adjacent village of Reminderville.
The district operates five buildings and, as of the 2018–19 school year, has an enrollment of approximately 3,000 students in grades preschool through twelve.
District offices are housed in the historic Aurora Township School, which was built in 1912.
In 1888, a two-story, schoolhouse was built near the center of town, a building still standing as the Aurora City Hall.
Lake Elementary School opened in 1961, but closed in the 1980s and the building was sold by the district.
