Børsa Municipality

[8][9] The parish of Børsa was established as a municipality on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt law).

[10] The municipality (originally the parish) is named after local bay (Old Norse: Birgsi) that lies along the village of Børsa.

On 3 November 1917, a royal resolution changed the spelling of the name of the municipality to Børsa.

At the time of the municipal dissolution, it was part of the Børsa prestegjeld and the Orkdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros.

[9] The municipality was located along the Gaulosen/Orkdalsfjorden coast, about 25 kilometres (16 mi) southwest of the city of Trondheim.

The municipal council (Herredsstyre) of Børsa was made up of representatives that were elected to four year terms.
