Bayou Chicot is an unincorporated community in Evangeline Parish, Louisiana, United States.
This location was the site of the first Baptist church in the state which was organized west of the Mississippi River.
[1] On November 13, 1812, Calvary Baptist church named Joseph Willis, an African American missionary as pastor.
[2] He had been a preacher to the Opelousa Indians and other ethnic groups of the district.
Bayou Chicot Elementary School is located in the community of Bayou Chicot and serves students in grades pre-kindergarten through eighth.
