Bellie Kirk

Bellie Kirk is a Georgian church of neoclassical design in Fochabers, Scotland, built in 1798 for the 4th Duke of Gordon.

Bellie Kirk was designed by John Baxter, an Edinburgh architect who had studied in Rome,[3] and its exterior has remained largely unaltered since it was completed in 1798,[4] although some repairs and alterations were carried out in 1835 under the direction of Archibald Simpson,[5] who also designed the nearby Gordon Chapel.

[7] Renovation work was carried out under George Bennet Mirchell and Son in 1954,[5] in which the original orientation of the interior was restored.

[8] The church faces north towards Fochabers' High Street across The Square, presenting a tetrastyle portico frontage (the first of its kind in Scotland),[6] with pedimented Roman Doric columns,[1] all made of finely worked ashlar sandstone.

[1] A trilogy of stained glass windows by Shona McInnes was installed in 1998, showing images of growth and harvest, the tree of life, and the Holy Spirit at Pentecost.
