Rodgers studied jazz and classical guitar at the University of Georgia.
He moved to Boston, where he taught jazz studies at the Berklee College of Music as one of their youngest instructors at age 23.

On March 24, 2018, Rodgers supported the post-grunge act Bush at The Fillmore Miami.
On May 5, 2018, Rodgers, along with Jimmie Vaughan and Blackfoot, supported Lynyrd Skynyrd at the MidFlorida Credit Union Amphitheatre in Tampa, Florida as part of Lynyrd Skynyrd's The Last of the Street Survivors Farewell Tour.
