The building's design was attributed to George Oakeshott, an employee of New South Wales Government Architect Walter Liberty Vernon and was built by J. Douglas of Orange.
[1] In June 2009, the Bourke Shire Council expressed outrage over not being informed of alterations to the building which had removed 109-year-old cedar benches to create two interview rooms.
The covered open walkways and enclosed garden court are designed to suit the hot dry climate.
