Breitenhagen is a village and a former municipality in the district Salzlandkreis, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany.
The final example of this type of vessel, the Marie-Gerda, is now a restaurant ship moored on the riverbank.
An area of approximately the size of Lake Constance was flooded, with the volume of water equalling that of the Rappbode Dam.
The villages of Breitenhagen, Klein Rosenburg, Groß Rosenburg, Lödderitz, Rajoch, Kühren, Diebzig, Susigke and parts of Sachsendorf and Aken were significantly impacted.
In July 2013, the THW attempted to enlarge the breach in order to relieve the flooded areas and channel the water back into the Elbe.
