The town was named after the Breadalbane Region in Scotland by an early settler.
Castle Cumberland was a short-lived fortification in the town during the American Revolutionary War.
Broadalbin was created from the towns of Johnstown and Mayfield in 1793, before Fulton County was formed.
Broadalbin lost the southern part of the town in 1842 to form Perth.
Broadalbin is located along the eastern edge of Fulton County, at the southern end of Great Sacandaga Lake.
