Calatola costaricensis is a lower-storey rainforest tree in the family Metteniusaceae, reaching up to 49 ft (15 m) in height.
[2][3] It is found from southern Mexico to northern South America.
It is notable for the size of its deeply sculpted seeds, which are up to 3 in (7.6 cm) in length by about 2 in (5.1 cm) wide.
