In between his company built ironclad gunboats at Carondelet, Missouri, for the Union during the Civil War.

Case financed the first omnibus company in St. Louis using a salvaged Army wagon.
Erastus Wells retained the Market Street & Chestnut and Olive St. omnibus lines.
In 1887, the Olive Street line converted to cable cars, and was electrified to streetcars in 1901.
