Carol Ann Newsom (born July 4, 1950) is an American biblical scholar, historian of ancient Judaism, and literary critic.
[2] In doing so, Newsom made history as the second woman to hold a tenure-track position at Candler School of Theology and the first female faculty member appointed to a chaired professorship.
In the administrative realm, Newsom served as Associate Dean of faculty development (2002–05) and as Director of the Graduate Division of Religion at Emory University from 2012 to 2015.
In October 2016, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences (AAAS), one of the nation's oldest and most prestigious honorary societies and a leading center for independent policy research.
[5] Newsom's research fellowships have included grants from the American Council of Learned Societies, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Henry Luce Foundation.
