It is grown mainly in the south of Spain, especially in Extremadura and in the Jerez region where it is distilled for use in brandy production.

[2] It may have originated in the Alentejo region of Portugal, although it is now rare in that area.

[2] Cayetana Blanca was the third most planted white grape variety in Spain, with 39,919 ha (98,640 acres) in 2015, totalling 4% of the grapes and 9% of the white variety hectarage.

Cayetana blanca is also known under several synonyms, including multiple spelling variant for each:[3][2] Other synonyms include Aujubi, Dedo or Dedro, Hoja vuelta, Mariouti, Neruca and Tierra de Barros.
