Central Avenue consists of two side platforms which serve the Ashmont–Mattapan High Speed Line's two tracks.

The second segment, between Milton and Mattapan with an intermediate stop at Central Avenue, opened on December 21, 1929.
Central Avenue station received new platforms and canopies, with wooden ramps for accessibility.
