Centropomoidei is a suborder of marine and freshwater ray-finned fishes belonging to the class Actinopterygii, a diverse group of vertebrates characterized by their bony skeletons.
It contains a number of families that were previously placed in both the Perciformes and the Carangiformes.
More recent studies have found them to form a distinct clade together within the Carangiformes, as the most basal members of the group.
