Cohagen was born on April 24, 1889, in Pierson, Iowa near Sioux City.
[1][2] He was educated in Le Mars, Iowa, and he moved to Billings, Montana with his family in 1907.
[3] In 1930, he redesigned the Oliver Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
