Charles Q. Clapp

Charles Quincy Clapp (May 26, 1799 – March 1, 1868) was an American merchant and architect in Portland, Maine.

[2] Fourteen of Clapp's designs were lost in the 1866 great fire of Portland.

[1] Clapp married Julia Octavia Wingate, granddaughter of General Henry Dearborn, in the early 1820s.

In 1832, Clapp designed and built his home at today's 97 Spring Street in Portland, having sold the adjacent McLellan House to his father-in-law.

[1] What is known as the Charles Q. Clapp House is now owned by the Portland Museum of Art.
