U.S. Highway 8 crosses the township, leading east to St. Croix Falls, Wisconsin, and southwest to Forest Lake.

As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 3,276 people, 1,127 households, and 926 families residing in the township.

There were 1,269 housing units at an average density of 27.5 per square mile (10.6/km2).

14.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 4.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

Chisago Lake, then Ki Chi Saga, was the location where the main characters of the epic Swedish novel The Emigrants settled.
