Chkalovsky District (Russian: Чка́ловский райо́н) was an administrative[1] and municipal[4] district (raion) in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast, Russia.
The area of the district was 861.5 square kilometers (332.6 sq mi).
[3] The district was established in 1936[1] as Vasilyevsky District (Васильевский район),[citation needed] but was renamed in 1937[1] in honor of Valery Chkalov.
Per Law #67-Z of May 13, 2015, the district was transformed into a town of oblast significance of Chkalovsk.
[2] In a similar manner, Law #59-Z of May 8, 2015 abolished Chkalovsky Municipal District and transformed it into Chkalovsk Urban Okrug.
