[10] In November 2024, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors released an independent report by retired judge LaDoris Cordell investigating allegations against Corpus.
[11] The allegations included abusing power, creating a toxic work environment, retaliation, and using homophobic and racist slurs.
It also found that she eliminated a sworn law enforcement position to create a special job paying more than $200,000 for her unqualified boyfriend Victor Aenlle while repeatedly lying about their relationship, concluding "[I]t is also clear that that relationship has led Sheriff Corpus to relinquish control of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office to Victor Aenlle, someone who has far more experience as a Coldwell Banker associate real estate broker than he has in law enforcement.
[15] In November 2024, minutes before the release of the independent report, Corpus ordered the arrest of the president of the Deputy Sheriff's union.
[16] In December 2024, the County district attorney threw out the case and said that there "was no basis to believe any violation of law had occurred", and that the individual should not have been arrested.
